Get Behind Our Diaper Drive
We're delighted that over 550 homeless guests used our Oasis service for homeless in its first year, getting showers, laundry, access to computers and more resources to get back on their feet. Many have come back to say "thank you" and share the good news of landing a job or getting a home - all because we helped them to be able to clean up and apply for work or housing!
What a difference our Oasis makes in their lives! One woman said after getting a shower and haircut: “It (Oasis) goes a long way to help you feel normal when you’re in a situation that’s not.”
Here are a few more ways we have made a difference in the past year:
+ Helped over 700 families with shelter & utilities, keeping them from losing their homes;
+ Assisted over 4,500 patients with costs of prescriptions and to obtain lab tests, exams, surgeries, and other medical aid;
+ Gave brand new shoes to over 1,350 needy children;
+ Provided over 29,000 bags of food for children, elderly, disabled, and other adults
Since 1986, The Christian Sharing Center has helped Seminole County families to remain stable during personal financial emergencies that leave them in need of basic food, clothing, and costs of mortgage or rent, utilities, transportation and medical expenses. Our trained caseworkers help people develop a plan to move from "those in need" to "those who succeed." Last year, we planted an organic Garden of Hope where we grow fresh vegetables and even some fruits and herbs to boost both the nutritional value and the amount of food we provide for hungry children, elderly and other adults.
In 2011, we took an enormous step in faith in a difficult economy to change the plight of homeless people in Central Florida by opening an "Oasis" in our Longwood plaza – the only one of its kind in Seminole County – where homeless can get a shower, a haircut and clothes washed to regain their dignity and self-respect. Adults and children can use computers for job searches and school work, and be connected to other resources to regain their independence and ability to work and live safely.
Helping stabilize local children and families with basic needs during family emergencies has been our charge and our passion for 27 years. Click here for more on how you can help The Sharing Center fulfill its mission:
"To provide essential resources to those in need while ensuring dignity, reflecting Christian generosity, and sharing God’s love."
